THE GREATEST LOVE STORY

Jul 21
3 min read

Once upon a time, there were two people deeply in love.

The man was rich, humble, and kind. Even though he was the son of a king, he never carried himself with pride. He treated the woman with love, honour, and respect. He gave her everything she asked for, and even more. At first, she appreciated him. But over time, she slowly began to take advantage of his love. Her communication became less frequent. She stopped spending quality time with him. She no longer made the relationship a priority. Yet whenever she needed something, she would run back to him, and without fail, he gave it to her. This continued for a long time. The people around him noticed and began asking, "Does she even love you?" But because he loved her so deeply, nothing anyone said could convince him to leave. Eventually, the relationship became one-sided. Conversations became rare. Everything felt forced. So he made a decision. "I am here and I will always love her, but she must also choose me because I don't want to force myself on her." At first, the woman didn't realise what she was losing. It wasn't until one day she looked around and saw just how far she had drifted from the relationship that it finally hit her. Broken and humbled, she returned. And to her surprise, he welcomed her back with open arms. Again, people called him foolish. "How could you take her back after everything?" But they didn't understand his love. Nothing could separate the love he had for her. And together, they rebuilt their relationship and lived happily ever after.

Sometimes I like to explain the story of Jesus using everyday stories because it makes me stop and think about how unbelievable His love really is. Imagine someone who loves you so much that they willingly give you everything. They provide for you, protect you, forgive you, and remain faithful to you. Yet you only speak to them when you need something. You slowly stop spending time with them.

You take their love for granted. If this were just a normal love story, every one of us would probably say, "This girl is foolish. How could she fumble someone like that?" Yet, that's often us. Jesus, the Son of the Most High God, the King of kings, who left heaven, took our place, paid the price for our sins, and gave us access to eternal life. Everything belongs to Him. He owes us absolutely nothing. Yet He still chooses to love us. Sometimes we act as though Jesus is lucky to have us. The truth is, if Jesus chose to walk away, He would lose nothing. We are the ones who would lose everything. Yet because His love is perfect, He doesn't walk away. He waits. He calls. He pursues. He welcomes us back every single time we genuinely return to Him. The Bible reminds us that nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:38–39). That truth fills my heart with so much joy. But His unconditional love should never become an excuse to become comfortable in distance. Grace is not permission to neglect relationship.

Yesterday, on my way home, I found myself thinking about this incredible love. A love that seems unfair, yet is freely given. Jesus doesn't need our money. He doesn't need our talents. He doesn't need our resources. What He desires is a relationship with us. That's what His heart longs for. What a God we serve. Knowing this should give you confidence that Jesus has always got you. Don't ever forget that. Whether you're walking through darkness or celebrating in the light, whether you're struggling or thriving, whether you're full of faith or barely holding on, Jesus loves you. On the days you're exhausted from work, He's there. On the days you can't stop smiling because life is good, He's there. On the days you feel forgotten, He's there. The King of kings has time for you. What a beautiful love. You don't have to earn His love. You don't have to perform for His affection. He has always loved you. He loves you today. And He will always love you. Come back to Him. His arms are still open. Father, thank You for loving me so faithfully. Forgive me for the times I've taken Your love for granted. Help me never to become familiar with Your grace, but to pursue a genuine relationship with You every single day. In Jesus' name, Amen.
