OH MOSES!

Imagine having the gift, the oil, the talent, yet something is holding you back: fear and low self-esteem. Two things that can kill what God has placed over your life. That’s exactly what was standing in Moses’ way.
Moses, the son of Amram and Jochebed, was born at a time when Pharaoh ordered the death of every Hebrew boy. His mother, through her wisdom, placed him in a basket on the River Nile, and he ended up being found by Pharaoh’s daughter. He was spared from death. He was raised by his mother, under the permission of the princess, until he was old enough. One day, Moses killed an Egyptian, and when he realised he had been seen, he ran. He fled to Midian, where he met Zipporah. They married and had two children, Gershom and Eliezer. Then one day, everything changed. Moses saw a burning bush, and when he approached it, he realised it was God, a divine encounter. God asked him to go and bring the Israelites out of Egypt. This is where fear and low self-esteem presented themselves.
God told Moses: “Look! The cry of the people of Israel has reached me, and I have seen how harshly the Egyptians abuse them. Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt.”But Moses protested, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:9–11, NLT).
Who am I?
I have come to the realisation that God will never send you anywhere if He believes you cannot overcome that place or make a difference. He sees the future from now. Fear and low self-esteem show up most in situations that seem out of the ordinary. If I were told to do something in a small crowd, fear would not stop me because I am used to smaller crowds. But if God asked me to step into a bigger crowd, that’s when fear would set in. “Lord, I can’t do this! Send someone else.” Oh, Moses!
Exodus 3–4 shows how Moses asked many “what if” questions, and God answered them all. When he realised there was an answer to every question, he turned to his weakness: “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.” (Exodus 4:10, NLT). Then God reassured him:“I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.” (Exodus 4:12, NLT). After all that, Moses still wasn’t convinced, and he pleaded: “Lord, please! Send anyone else.” (Exodus 4:13, NLT).
Fear.
Then the Lord became angry, but God, being God, accommodated Moses by allowing Aaron, his brother, to join the mission. Now think about this: What has the Lord asked you to do that fear is stopping you from achieving? What is making you think, “No, I can’t do this?” I know we all agree it is easier said than done, but what if it shouldn’t be? What if stepping up is what brings the change? What if we all agree, together, not to let fear hold us back? Shouldn’t there be more we desire to do?
Oh Moses! Oh Moses, do not be limited! Do not be comfortable only with the things within your control. God has a greater mission for you. Why not allow Him to bring it to a complete and beautiful end? Indeed, He has a plan for you, and it is for a good future. Allow God to show you what you are made of.
Prayer: Father, we exalt Your name. God, deliver us from the cage of fear and set us free. Give us the courage to step into the places You have assigned for us, and help us align our will with Your will. In Jesus’ name, amen.
