THE CONFIDENCE THAT I HAVE

When I was little and lived in Ghana, there were some things that if I didn’t do, my Saturday wouldn’t feel complete. One of the things was my twin and I would wake up before 6am so we could make it right on time to get Rhoda’s mum's bread. She starts baking probably at 5am, and she lived so close to us so by the time we wake up, we could smell it, and we would rush to get it when it was hot! It tasted amazing. The next thing was to watch Tinga Tinga and Supastrikas! But one more thing that I used to do was tuning in to watch wrestling. If you’re Ghanaian back in the days you know what I’m talking about. Wrestling was played on the TV every Saturday and it was lit. And our favourite wrestler was John Cena. This is because every time John Cena entered the ring, we knew he would win and indeed he never disappointed us. The day that John Cena didn’t win one of his matches, I was really upset. Like how come? I was thinking of that yesterday and the verse that came to mind was This is the confidence we have in Him… (1 John 5:14). If I could trust John Cena who had the capability to lose, then I can trust God completely. John had a record of almost always winning, but God has a track record of ALWAYS winning. And when I say always, I mean always.

One thing I love about God is that when you depend on Him, you cannot lose! I want to talk about my Bible husband, Abraham. You see, Abraham was a man who waited on God for a child, the promise child. Years went by and I’m sure he saw many people having babies during those years of waiting. He must have thought to himself, “One day that will be me”. He knew that he had received a word from God, it surely would come to pass. The first year passed, then the second, then the third! Finally, the 25th year came, and God’s word was fulfilled. 25 years! How can one wait for 25 years for a promise? Sometimes we receive a word  from God, and yes we have faith. We wait and wait and it seems like nothing happens! Then our faith begins to fail us. “But God, you said…” “Or was that voice not from God?” “Wait, was that prophecy a lie?” I’m here to tell you that there is something called confidence, and it only comes when you follow the track record of someone you trust.

For example, if I give you £50 every month, and I tell you one day that for the next month, I’ll give you £200, wouldn’t you believe me? Even if I don’t have the £200 yet, wouldn’t you still trust that I would give it? When the end of that month comes and I haven’t given it yet, would you still not believe in your heart that I would give? Of course, because I have always done what I promised! Now I want us to shift that focus on God now! How come you’re struggling to believe God will give you that job? Or that partner? Or that money? Or the children? Is it because you are struggling to see the track record? The Bible says Is anything too hard for God?(Jeremiah 32:27) Keyword: “anything”. He’s got this! Don’t be discouraged! Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfil?(Numbers 23:19 NIV). Has he ever left you in that wilderness? God is with you! He is for you! God will never leave you stranded if you don’t leave Him searching. What I mean by that is we sometimes leave God or go into hiding when we don’t see the things that God has promised us. We become distant from His presence and He starts to ask Where are you?(Genesis 3:9) It is about time we come to God, and say God I have confidence in You! I have confidence that whatever You have said will come to pass. Whatever You have planned will be accomplished. This is the confidence I have God! THIS IS THE CONFIDENCE I HAVE THAT YOUR WORDS O GOD, SHALL SURELY BE FULFILLED. Lord we trust You, and we know the plans You have for us are beautiful. Help us wait on You and experience Your gifts for us. We thank You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
